Celebrating longevity
It’s not every day a club can say they are celebrating 120 years. That’s exactly what the Columbus Shakespeare Club is currently doing.
The Club, formed in 1899 as a ladies’ academic and social group, has expanded to 15 active members, including five men thanks to a fairly recent change in membership rules. It’s a monthly celebration of 120 years of fandom and scholarship of the playwright.
The Club’s passion and excitement for the works of the Bard of Avon are evident, and they are worth celebrating.
Worthy cause
The Columbus North High School Bull Dog Pantry handed out a generous gift just before the holidays, gifting Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. a check of more than $1,000 that went to an incredible cause.
The gift was given to pay off debts on all student lunch accounts across the district, something that helped hundreds of families a week before Christmas. Tonya Cruser, coordinator of the Bull Dog Pantry, saw a need and approached the Columbus North administration in September about the possibility of helping. The Pantry held several fundraisers throughout the fall semester to deplete the lunch debt.
The generosity couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s an example of the community looking out for other community members, and it’s one worthy of extra recognition.
Great idea
A new shuttle service will bring a more efficient, less expensive option for Columbus residents looking to get to the Indianapolis International Airport.
GO Express Travel is starting the Columbus Express on Jan. 2, a 14-passenger shuttle that will stop at seven locations in Columbus and Bartholomew County. It’s a service Columbus has needed for a while, and it’s inexpensive at only $25.
That’s a great value for travelers. It eliminates the need to pay for parking at the airport, and for driving downtown. It’s a win all-around for Columbus residents.
