Columbus North and Seymour battled back and forth in Tuesday night’s dual wrestling match.
As the evening wore on, the Owls got the push necessary to down the Bull Dogs 49-30.
"We kind of had some peaks and valleys tonight, and we had guys in the right places, and sometimes the score doesn’t always work out," North coach Matt Joyce said. "The score doesn’t always look as good as it was. We were nearly in all of those matches. It’s a tough one, but we made a lot of progress for sure. Guys are wrestling well, and we have a lot of young kids, and the progress they’ve made at the beginning of the year, it’s really fun to watch."
The Bull Dogs got three big performances from Nick Holt at 170 pounds, Keegan Hill at 182 and Adam Behling at 220. All three won their respective matches by pin.

"Keegan was great. That was a great duck-under by him and put the guy right on his back, which was great and exactly what he needed to do. He’s that kind of kid that goes out and does what you need him to," Joyce said. "Nick went out and wrestled tough. This is his first time making 170, so he’s shifted down to his right weight class, and he’s going to be tough. Adam Behling wrestled a tough match."
North picked up a couple more victories via forfeit with Cody Thurnall in the 285-pound division and Keandre Watson at 138. Seymour picked up a couple forfeit victories at 113 and at 120.
Ro Baltazar of Seymour downed Zeppelin Mouser of North by pin at 106. Nate Banister of the Owls topped Clayton Traylor of the Bull Dogs by pin at 132. Seymour’s Jacob Rotert won against Hector De Dios of North by pin at 160. The Owls’ Brody Shipley defeated Quincy Capps of the Bull Dogs by pin at 195.
At 145, Ben Kriete of Seymour defeated Zerek Greathouse of North by technical fall. At 126, Seymour’s Sam Casstetter won against North’s Junior Morales by a 16-2 major decision, and the Owls’ Jake Kriete defeated the Bull Dogs’ Jared Slocum a 10-0 major decision at 152.
North will compete in the New Palestine Invitational on Saturday, then square off against crosstown rival Columbus East on Jan. 15.
