COLUMBUS
Derek Marshal Henderson, 38, of Columbus, Indiana, formerly of Fairfield, California, finally found peace and passed from this life on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at 1:24 a.m., at Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Department after a long battle with mental health disorders.
He was a loving husband to Carrie Henderson (Monroe) of Columbus, Indiana, and a devoted father to two daughters, Jordan and Rogue Henderson. He was a United States Air Force Military Veteran and served time in Afghanistan after 9/11. He played college football at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and then Arena Football for the Mississippi Mudcats in 2007. Derek loved fitness and enjoyed working with kids and adults to meet their fitness goals. He was a Level 4 Certified Personal Trainer and was certified with the American College of Sports Medicine.
He leaves behind his parents, Kenneth Henderson, Sr., and Darlene Henderson of Rancho Cordova, California, his in-laws Craig and Becky Monroe of Columbus, Indiana, and Coleman Monroe of Louisville, Kentucky, older brothers Kenneth Henderson, Jr., of Rancho Cordova, California, and Major Marcques (Tish) Henderson of Kuai, Hawaii, and 15 other siblings, two grandmothers, numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, great uncles, great aunts, cousins and friends.
Derek was preceded in death by a brother, sister, grand and great grandparents.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 13, 2020 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 719 Fifth Street, Columbus, Indiana; Dr. Chad Foster will officiate. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Air Force Ceremonial Unit.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Cremation will take place following the funeral service.
