Tickets for Dancing With the Stars Columbus Style 2020 set for Jan. 25 at The Commons are selling briskly, with fewer than 70 tickets left for the evening show and fewer than half left for the afternoon show, organizers said.

The theme for the gathering is “British Invasion.”

The event this year features nine local couples — some are spouses and some are a dance teacher paired with a local “celebrity.” It is a fundraiser for two nonprofit agencies: Family School Partners and Children Inc. Learning Center. Family School Partners works to assist parents “in their role as their child’s first and most important teacher,” said Arriann Custer, director.

Children Inc. Learning Center is a nationally accredited agency providing child care for preschool/pre-kindergarten-age children and school-age children.

Last year, a total audience of 800 people raised $68,622 for the cause. Community and audience members vote with money. And voting already has begun on the fundraiser’s website at dwtscolumbus.com.

The event also includes performances from local dance studios and ensembles while votes and donations are being tabulated. The gathering has become one of the city’s most popular fundraisers — and one that often generates considerable audience involvement, ranging from simple cheers to exuberant and playful catcalls.

Plus, just before winners are announced, audience members assemble on the stage and dance to a disc jockey’s tunes.

The competing couples are:
