Patberg earns another honor

Indiana University guard Ali Patberg was named to the John R. Wooden Award Women’s Midseason Top 25 that was announced Wednesday.

The women’s basketball players are chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the first half of the season.

Patberg, a redshirt junior from Columbus North, has the Hoosiers off to one of its best starts in the program’s history at 14-3 and a No. 15 ranking in the latest Associated Press poll.

Patberg finished with six points, seven assists and three rebounds in a tough 91-85 double-overtime loss on the road to Iowa on Sunday. She had a game-high 18 points, three rebounds and three steals in a 66-48 win against Purdue on Thursday.

Huffman starts in losses

Cedarville guard Ashlyn Huffman finished 22 points, five rebounds and seven assists in a 75-73 loss to Walsh on Saturday.

Huffman, a junior from North, had 11 points, 11 assists and six rebounds in a 70-67 loss to Findlay on Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets are 11-5.

Guy starts in wins

Marian University forward Imani Guy, a junior from North, finished with 13 points and five rebounds in a 69-57 win over Goshen Saturday. Guy’s teammate, Elle Williams, a senior from North, added eight rebounds in the win.

Guy finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in a 76-48 win over Spring Arbor on Wednesday.

The Knights are 16-2.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Gross strong in wins

Olivet Nazarene center Alex Gross finished with 13 points, nine rebounds, five blocks and four assists in a 72-65 win over IU-South Bend on Saturday.

Gross, a sophomore from Hauser, had 12 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks in a 98-57 win over Trinity International on Wednesday.

The Tigers are 18-1.

King contributes in losses

Army forward Alex King finished with five points and four rebounds in an 81-59 loss to Boston University on Saturday.

King, a junior from North, had 13 points in a 68-60 loss to American University on Wednesday. He had nine points, four rebounds and seven assists in a 70-65 loss to Colgate on Jan. 6.

Williams continues to win

Hanover forward Kevin Williams, a senior from Columbus East, finished with a team-high 12 points and five rebounds in a 63-44 win over Bluffton on Saturday.

The Panthers are 10-3.

Chitty still perfect

Bellarmine guard Parker Chitty, a senior from East, scored nine points and added one rebound and one assist in a 79-65 victory over Southern Indiana on Saturday.

The Knights are 12-0.

Wilson starts in loss

Illinois Valley Community College guard Connor Wilson, a junior from Hauser, finished with eight points and a block in a 79-63 loss to South Suburban College on Saturday.

WRESTLING

Rooks wins decision

Indiana University wrestler Graham Rooks, a sophomore from East, won by a 6-1 decision over Mousa Jodeh of Illinois at 149 pounds Sunday. The Hoosiers fell to the 18th-ranked Illini 32-3.

Rooks’ brother, Cayden, a freshman from East, fell by a 3-1 decision to Travis Piotrowski of Illinois at 133.

SWIMMING

Coles earns wins

Marshall’s Darby Coles won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle in a dual meet against Duquesne on Saturday.

Coles, a junior from North, finished with a time of 24.78 in the 50 freestyle, and had a time of 53.25 in the 100 freestyle. She also contributed to the winning 400 freestyle relay team that swam 3:35.81.
