Daniel Murphy // Columbus East junior basketball player

Murphy led the Olympians with 13 points in Friday’s 52-42 loss at Perry Meridian and with 12 points in Saturday’s 40-37 victory at Martinsville.

His performance last week: “I just tried to focus on things we worked on in practice and tried to help us win.”

Favorite drink: “Just water. That’s all I drink.”

Favorite food: “Orange chicken”

Favorite class: “Pre-Calculus”

Role model: “My parents (Amanda and Yancey Murphy)”

Best advice: “Commit to whatever you do, and just don’t quit.”

Athletics goal: “To continue to do well throughout the season and hopefully win sectional.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I’d like to go see Alaska.”

FEMALE

Jennifer Utterback // Columbus East senior swimmer

Utterback won the 100-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke and swam on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams in a 108-68 win at Bedford North Lawrence.

Her performance last week: “I hurt my neck right after we got off for Christmas break at the New Albany meet, and I was happy I was able to come back from that.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I drink beet juicee.”

Favorite drink: “Green smoothies”

Favorite food: “Corn dogs”

Favorite class: “Accounting”

Favorite sports team: “Notre Dame football”

Favorite athlete: “Katie Ledecky”

Role model: “My parents (John and Carrie Utterback).”

Best advice: “Just go for it and do your best. Don’t complain if you do bad; just move forward.”

Athletics goal: “Make it to state.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Rome, because Italy is my favorite foreign country.”
