Family and friends celebrated with Taylorsville resident Lawrence Fowler on the occasion of his 100th birthday with a party at Taylorsville Elementary School.
The party was held on Jan. 26 at the school. Fowler was born on Jan. 23, 1920 in Taylorsville, near the current location of Camp Atterbury at his parent’s home.
He attended Taylorsville Elementary School, Edinburgh Elementary School and graduated from Edinburgh High School. He was a member of the CCC from 1939 to 1941 and is a World War II veteran.

Fowler drove a school bus for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. for 32 years before retiring in 1994. His family describes him as a hard-working farmer, taking care of a wide variety of animals on his farm including, cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, deer, horses and pigeons.
He is a member of Taylorsville United Methodist Church. He also served as German Township Trustee for four terms.
Fowler owns property along the river and loves to spend his spare time there working in his garden, his family said.
Fowler said that drinking three swallows of red grape wine every night is what helped him make it to age 100, along with doing things in moderation.
