Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a local man who was observed throwing what appeared to be drugs into a wooded area along railroad tracks in the area of Jonesville Road and Jonathan Moore Pike.
Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Dustin Newland was in the area of Jonesville Road/Jonathan Moore Pike, when he observed a male subject walking along the railroad tracks. As Newland attempted to make contact with the subject, later identified as Hugh Travis Galbraith, 47, Columbus, Galbraith ran south throwing an item into a wooded area along the tracks, deputies said.
Once Galbraith was detained, a Columbus Police K9 located what was suspected to be methamphetamine in the area where Newland observed Galbraith throw the item.
Galbraith was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of railroad trespass and resisting law enforcement, deputies said. He has since been released from jail, deputies said. Additional charges may be forthcoming, deputies said.
