JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East made it four consecutive regional wrestling titles with a championship Saturday at Jeffersonville.
The Olympians scored 165 1/2 points. Jeffersonville edged Tell City 115-114 for second.
“It was a very solid day,” East coach Chris Cooper said. “I thought Jeffersonville and Tell City wrestled really well and made it a competition, but our guys wrestled outstanding.”
Nine of the 12 Olympians who competed in the regional qualified for Saturday’s Evansville Semistate with top-four finishes. Seven made the finals, and five captured titles.
Noah Lykins (113 pounds), Jacob Shaver (138), Kade Law (152), Sam Morrill (160) and Noah White (182) were the victors for East. Shawn Tyler (220) and Ashton Hartwell each finished second.
“The five guys that won just wrestled incredibly,” Cooper said. “The two guys that were runners-up wrestled well, too.”
Also advancing for the Olympians were Liam Krueger, who finished third at 106, and Tyler Williams, who was fourth at 145.
Columbus North advanced two wrestlers to semistate. Keandre Watson lost a 4-3 decision to Shaver in the 138-pound final to take second, and Nick Holt was third at 170.
Brown County finished sixth in the team standings and qualified three to semistate, including 145-pound champion David Tucker. Evan Bradshaw (195) and Sam Allen (285) each finished third.
Jennings County’s lone qualifier, Cameron Woodard, finished fourth at 182.
