Cougars survive scare

GREENSBURG — Class 2A No. 6 South Decatur rallied from an 11-point third-quarter deficit Tuesday to pull out a 69-61 win against South Ripley in the opening round of the North Decatur Sectional.

“We picked up the defensive intensity a lot, and offensively, we started attacking the basket,” South Decatur coach Kendall Wildey said. “The first half, we were relying on perimeter shots a lot. The second half, we took it to the hole.”

Lane Lauderbaugh scored 22 points, and Hunter Johnson had 20 to lead the Cougars (22-2). Dominic Walters added 16.

South Decatur will play Triton Central in the semifinals at around 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Panthers upset Bulldogs

SEYMOUR — Jennings County trailed 12-7 after one quarter before going on to post a 59-53 win against New Albany in the opening round of the Seymour Sectional, avenging a 13-point regular-season loss.

Jacob Vogel led the Panthers (13-11) with 19 points and six rebounds. Aaron Martin added 13 points, and Carson McNulty had 11 points.

Jennings will play Bedford North Lawrence in the semifinals at around 7:30 p.m. Friday.
