COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Larry W. Ellegood, 73, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, March 8, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Ellegood was born June 19, 1946, in Campbellsburg, Kentucky, the loving son of James Wilson and Betty Lee Batts Ellegood. On August 5, 1967, Larry married Kathy Smith; she survives.

Mr. Ellegood enlisted in the U.S. Navy September 20, 1965. He served on the USS Enterprise and was stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged September 19, 1968.

He retired from Cummins Engine Company after 34 years of service working as a HVAC journeyman. He then was involved with the family businesses in Columbus for many years.

Larry was a country boy at heart growing up in Switzerland County, Indiana. Like his father, he raised Haflinger horses for many years and had a soft spot for animals. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, especially IU basketball and he was a big Bobby Knight fan. He enjoyed doing crossword and word puzzles and was extremely proud of his grandchildren.

Mr. Ellegood is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy; son, Matt Ellegood of Columbus; daughter, Lori Ellegood of Columbus; grandson, Ben Ellegood; granddaughter, Sophia Ellegood-Turnbow; sisters, Sue (Carlie) Armstrong of Fairview, Indiana and JoAnne (Jerry) Hon of Florence, Indiana; brothers, Tommy (Judy) Ellegood of Columbus and Wayne (Sandy) Ellegood of Vevay, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Ellegood was preceded in death by his parents, James Wilson and Betty Lee Ellegood; a brother, James Lee Ellegood; and two nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street in Columbus; Tom Rogers will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday.

Mr. Ellegood will be laid to rest at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or For Their Futures Fund at The Ridge.
