Two people were arrested after Columbus police officers located marijuana and cocaine during a traffic stop near 17th Street and Cottage Avenue shortly before midnight on Friday.

After stopping the car for a minor violation, the officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and both the driver, Richard A. Simpson, 36, of Columbus and his passenger, Kellie S. Blann, 50, of Crawfordsville, were detained, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

While speaking with Simpson, he told Columbus police that he had marijuana in his jacket pocket, Harris said. The officers also located additional drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle that Blann claimed belonged to her, Harris said.

Simpson was issued a criminal citation for possession of marijuana and released from the scene. Blann was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Blann was released from the Bartholomew County Jail after posting $13,500 bond, jail officials said.
