MALE

Aaron Martin // Jennings County senior basketball player

Martin scored 13 points in a 59-53 first-round win against New Albany, led the Panthers with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 44-43 semifinal win over Bedford North Lawrence and had nine points in a 70-33 loss to Floyd Central in the Seymour Sectional final.

His performance last week: “I think overall as a team, we played really well. We just obviously couldn’t get the job done when we needed to. But I’m very happy with the outcome that we did have from where we started.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just ice my quads and hamstrings and eat a banana.”

Favorite drink: “During the season, it’s obviously going to be water, but outside of the season, probably Gatorade.”

Favorite food: “Any form of meat, probably more chicken.”

Favorite class: “English”

Favorite sports team: “Los Angeles Lakers”

Favorite athlete: “LeBron James”

Role model: “My dad (Howard Martin).”

Best advice: “When you get knocked down, get right back up and keep going from where you started.”

Athletics goal: “To win the conference at the collegiate level for track and field (as a shot and discus thrower at Purdue-Fort Wayne).”

If you could travel anywhere: “Greece, for the scenery.”

FEMALE

Madison Henderson // Columbus Christian junior basketball player

Henderson scored nine points in a 45-35 win against East Hills (Florida) and led the Crusaders with 23 points in a 47-39 semifinal win against Carroll (Maryland) in last week’s National Association of Christian Athletes Tournament in Dayton, Tennessee.

Her performance last week: “I think that my team did a very good job of setting me up for some really good shots, and they were just falling, which is awesome.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just try to remember that basketball is supposed to have fun, and I try to have fun and enjoy the time that I have with my team.”

Favorite drink: “Cherry Coke”

Favorite food: “Ranch dressing. I eat it like it’s food.”

Favorite class: “English”

Favorite sports team: “Michigan State”

Favorite athlete: “Denzel Valentine”

Role model: “Kevin Ridder, a teacher at my school”

Best advice: “Have short-term memory. If you dwell on your mistakes, you’re probably going to do worse.”

Athletics goal: “To reflect the gospel and glorify God through how I play and how I treat my teammates.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Rome, because the buildings there are so pretty, and it’s so historical.”
