COLUMBUS
Theresa B. Bergmann Kohlenberg, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away peacefully on her 89th birthday at Columbus Regional Health Center on Saturday, March 7, 2020.
Theresa was born in 1931 in Du Quoin, Illinois, to Philip and Louisa Bergmann, the youngest of six children, raised on her family farm, and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic Grammar School, and in 1948 from Elkville High School. She then moved to Indianapolis to attend business school, and began a lifelong career as an Executive Secretary, initially with the Mayflower Moving Company, and retiring from the City of Indianapolis. Theresa also trained and was hired as a Stewardess for American Airlines in 1952, but subsequently married her husband for life, Robert (Bob) Atlee Kohlenberg, and moved to Pennsylvania.
Theresa and Bob raised two children in Pennsylvania, Dana and Paul. The family returned to Indianapolis in the 1970’s. She lost her beloved husband Bob in 1999, and relocated to Columbus, Indiana to be near her son, Paul.
Theresa made many friends throughout her life, and especially loved taking walks with her neighbors. A woman of strong faith, she most recently joined St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she found many treasured friends. Theresa was also a caring owner to many cats and small dogs throughout her life.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Bob; children, Dana and Paul; siblings and their spouses, Sylvester (Mary), Hilda (Harley), Florence (Tom), Charles (Orlene), and Inez (Willard). She is survived by many nieces and nephews living throughout the country; and by her pets, Lexi and Kiera. The family wishes to thank Theresa’s many and devoted Columbus friends and neighbors for their care and support for her over the years.
In keeping with Mrs. Kohlenberg’s wishes, cremation will take place. There will be no service.
