Local man arrested on drug related charges after traffic stop

Joseph Leszcynski

A Columbus man was arrested early Friday morning after CPD officers received a call of a suspicious vehicle in the 2000 block of North National Road.

At about 1:38 a.m., officers located the suspicious vehicle and initiated a traffic stop after several license plate violations were observed, said Columbus Police Department spokeswoman Alyson M. Eichel.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the passenger initially provided officers with a false name. Officers were able to confirm the passenger’s identity as Joseph Leszcynski, 34, Columbus, and determine that he had a warrant for his arrest out of Bartholomew County, Eichel said. A police K9 responded and alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.

While searching the vehicle, officers located a multicolored bag where Leszcynski was sitting that contained a crystal like substance, which was later identified as methamphetamine, Eichel said.

Leszcynski was transported to the Bartholomew County jail on the following preliminary charges:

  • Bartholomew County warrant
  • False informing
  • Possession of methamphetamine
