COLUMBUS
Roy Joe Brown, 53, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, was born to Mae Emma Brown and Eddie Roy Ellis March 28, 1966 in Athens, Georgia. He left his earthly body to be with the Lord on March 13, 2020.
Roy, aka “Big Coonie” and “The General”, attended Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Georgia where he excelled at football, but anybody that knows him, knows that his real passion was basketball. Roy also enjoyed fishing and kayaking as well. People would often debate with him on who was the master griller and it’s safe to say that he held that title hands down.
Roy married his middle school sweetheart, Tanya Dowdy, June 2, 1994. They ultimately settled in Columbus, Indiana where he held a work position with Hisada America Inc for almost 20 years. In these past few years, Roy’s real passion ultimately shifted to being the fun-loving grandfather of 26.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Tanya Yvette Brown; his children, Reginald Brown of Columbus, Indiana, Santana Harper of Athens, Georgia, Roderick Brown of Columbus, Indiana, Andrea Bush of Columbus, Indiana, Mondreco (April) Brown of Columbus, Indiana, Kiara Brown of Athens, Georgia, Tevin Brown of Athens, Georgia and Brandy (Ryan) Willard of Columbus, Indiana; siblings, Ronnie Brown, Randy Brown, Mark Brown, Paul Brown, David Brown and Tonya Brown all of Athens, Georgia; son in Christ, Jerry Harris; 26 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Roy was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Emma Brown and father, Eddie Roy Ellis.
Private visitation will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
Additional services will be held March 26 & 27, 2020 at Gardenview Funeral Chapel in Athens, Georgia.
Roy will be laid to rest at East Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Athens, Georgia.
