A local man was arrested Friday night on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he was involved in a single vehicle crash.
Columbus police officers were sent to the area of 10th Street and Marr Road at 11:30 p.m. Friday about a crash in which the vehicle had struck the median, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
The driver, later identified as Tomas G. Silvestre, 23, of 4007 Rosewood Lane, had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, according to officers. The officers also noted that Silvestre’s speech was slurred and he had trouble maintaining his balance, Harris said.
Silvestre was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where he submitted to a blood draw. Silvestre was later placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was held on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Silvestre was later released from the jail after posting $2,500 bond, jail officials said.
