Bartholomew County Health Department health officer Dr. Brian Niedbalski confirmed he was aware of one positive test result at Love Chapel. Niedbalski said that individual is being quarantined until deemed fit to return to work.

“Love Chapel has been cooperative in following all CDC recommendations for cleaning and reducing spread of the virus, Niedbalski said. “The health department has completed the investigation of this case. Love Chapel has been advised to post signage notifying everyone who was present on Friday or Saturday to monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19. Those patients are deemed low risk because of their limited contact time with the individual who tested positive,” the health officer said.

Several hundred people picked up food during the time the staff member was working at the food pantry, according to volunteers.

At Love Chapel, Kelly Daugherty, director, said he could not confirm or deny that an employee had tested positive for COVID-19, saying it would violate HIPAA regulations.

“If there’s been a test, I could not confirm or deny. But I will tell you we work very closely with the health department, and if there were any kind of a case, we would follow their guidelines to a ‘T’.”

“I can assure you that anyone I felt that was at risk, and may have contracted the virus, they would be in contact with medical professionals and would be isolated. There is so much going on with this virus that people don’t understand, and the mechanism behind it. But there are true professionals that know what to do if there is a case. The key is to consult those folks and be able to go forward with it,” Daugherty told the Republic.
