Letter: Rohde displays right qualities for judge

From: Sandy LaBarbera

Columbus

I am writing to encourage you to vote for Jon Rohde for Judge of Bartholomew County Superior Court II.

I have known Jon for almost 20 years and have personal knowledge of the great qualities he has that make him the best candidate for judge.

I worked at the Columbus Police Department through Jon Rohde’s career there until my retirement two years ago. I witnessed the strong work ethic and utmost integrity Jon applied to every position he held, from patrolman to captain, and ultimately as the chief of police.

As secretary to the police chief, I had daily contact with Jon and saw firsthand his ability to successfully handle all of the routine issues of supervising an entire police department, as well as taking on special projects, such as establishing an Intelligence Led Policing unit, leading the police department through a successful accreditation process, and helping to establish and grow the ASAP program to help those affected by drug addiction.

Jon is extremely intelligent and is able to thoroughly analyze any issue brought to his attention. It was not uncommon for other department heads to seek Jon’s input on the issues or problems they were dealing with because they valued his knowledge and opinion, and they knew that he would be completely honest with them.

During his tenure as Chief of Police, Jon was always available to the employees and community he served. His primary focus was, and is, being of service to others. He started many conversations with, “What can I do to make your day better?”

Jon does not see himself as being better than anyone else and truly sees the value in each person he deals with. I believe his humility is one of the great qualities he has that will make him a great judge. He is a skilled and caring listener and can focus on the small details while maintaining a keen awareness of the big picture.

I’ve had the good fortune to not only work with Jon but to become good friends with him and his family. I know Jon Rohde has no prejudices and will be a fair and impartial judge. Jon is humble, honest, intelligent, analytical, and he has a great work ethic. These traits have made him a successful attorney and police officer, and they will make him an honorable judge.

Please vote for Jon Rohde for Judge of Bartholomew County Superior Court II.
