CPD arrests two after police pursuit

Two men were arrested on multiple charges after they were accused of fleeing from a Columbus police officer during a traffic stop on Monday.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., an officer from the CPD Intelligence Led Policing Unit, which is comprised of CPD officers as well as a deputy from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, attempted to stop a vehicle for an expired license plate and a cracked windshield near 11th Street and Chestnut Street, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officer spoke with the driver, Matthew B. Herron, 39, of Columbus and his passenger Timothy A. Mose, 30, of Crawfordsville. A short time later, a CPD canine was requested and later alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle, Harris said.

When the officer approached Herron’s vehicle, Herron sped off in an attempt to evade the officers. The officers pursued the men who disregarded several stop signs and traffic signals and drove into oncoming traffic during the pursuit, Harris said.

Herron eventually pulled his vehicle over in the 8100 block of 25th Street where both he and Mose were detained. While searching the vehicle, the officers located methamphetamine along with counterfeit money inside the car, Harris said.

Both men were placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were being held on the following preliminary charges:

  • Matthew B. Herron: Possession of methamphetamine, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, reckless driving, reckless driving in a construction zone, criminal recklessness, and counterfeiting
  • Timothy A. Mose: Possession of methamphetamine
