WEST LAFAYETTE — The Harrison Lakers didn’t quite have the big day they had in Monday’s qualifier at The Legends when they teed it up again on Wednesday on the first day of the Indiana Golf Association 2020 Team State Finals.
The Lakers, a team made up of golfers from Columbus North, Columbus East and Greenwood, carded a 333 at Purdue’s Ackerman-Allen Course and are in a tie for 13th place at the midway point. They’re 21 shots out of the lead, but only six shots out of eighth going into today’s final round.
Center Grove Legacy, which finished second behind the Lakers on Monday, leads the 18-team field with a 312. Carmel is second at 314, and Penn and Guerin Catholic are tied for third at 316.
Luke Schneider, who will be a junior at North, led the Lakers with an 80 on Monday, while Kody Reynolds, who will be a senior at East, carded an 81. Jackson Watkins, who will be a junior at Greenwood, added an 84, while Willy Davis and Jack Schiavello, who will be sophomores at North, shot 88 and 93, respectively.
"I really thought they fought through adversity today," said Andrew Weisheit, an assistant pro at Harrison Lake Country Club who is coaching the Lakers. "It was a really windy day with the tropical storm, and every team had to battle through that today. But we left some shots out there."
