North Vernon man arrested after warrant served

JENNINGS COUNTY — Jennings County Sheriff deputies arrested a North Vernon man on an active arrest warrant for drug-related charges.

Jennings County Sheriff deputies and narcotics detectives located Shawn M. Kuhlman, 24, North Vernon, at a residence in Geneva Township at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.  Kuhlman was wanted on an active arrest warrant through Jennings Circuit Court for three counts of felony dealing methamphetamine.

Sgt. Cody Low and his canine partner Axel observed Kuhlman attempting to flee from the rear of the residence, said Sheriff Department Chief Deputy David Turner.  Low gave several commands for Kuhlman to stop or the canine would be deployed.  Kuhlman refused to obey the verbal commands and continued to flee on foot, Turner said.

The police dog was deployed and was able to apprehend Kuhlman, Turner said. Kuhlman was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for dog bites from the canine apprehension.

Kuhlman is being held in the Jennings County Jail on the following charges:

  •  Dealing Methamphetamine Level 3 felony
  •  Dealing Methamphetamine Level 4 Felony
  •  Dealing Methamphetamine Level 4 Felony
  • Resisting Law Enforcement A-Misdemeanor
