James T. “Slim” Mee, 78, of Hope, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

James had worked in maintenance at Sonoco for 30 years. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

James had previously been a member and served as a trustee at First Baptist Church of Hope and in more recents years had attended Hartsville Baptist Church.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and reading Louis L’Amour books. James really enjoyed the time he spent deer spotting with his brother-in-law, Dale.

Born on May 31, 1942 in Cumberland County, Kentucky, James was born to William Andrew and Golda I. Young Mee. He married Barbara Tallent on April 8, 1968, and she survives.

Other survivors include children, James “Tony” (Claudette) Mee of Hope and Scott (Tracy) Mee of Columbus; grandchildren, Tyler Mee, James (Olivia King) Mee, Aaron Mee, Jacob Mee, Noah Mee, Addison Mee, Bret (Mindy Mullis) Hollman, Ryan Hollman, Josh (Chloe) Shepherd, Caleb (Megan) Shepherd, and Ashton (Jon) Hibbs; ten great-grandchildren; and siblings, Tom (Rhonda) Mee of Hope, Justina Daniels, and Lonzae (Janet) Mee, both of Kentucky.

James is preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles “Chuck” Mee; brother, Calvin H. Mee; and granddaughter, Adalyn Ann Mee.

Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Norman Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Hope Moravian Cemetery with Pastor Tim Tallent officiating.
