State: Health department reports 793 new positive COVID-19 cases

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) said 793 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 51,079 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.

A total of 2,563 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of eight over the previous day. Another 193 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 558,146 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 550,562 on Friday.

Bartholomew County is reporting 597 positive cases (up four) and 45 deaths (no change).

Surrounding counties reported:

Decatur County: 265 positive cases (up one) and 32 deaths (no change).

Shelby County: 454 positive cases (up 19) and 25 deaths (no change).

Johnson County: 1,340 positive cases (up 15 cases) and 118 deaths (no change).

Brown County: 43 positive cases and one death (no change).

Jackson County: 478 positive cases and three deaths (no change).

Jennings County: 179 positive cases and 12 deaths (no change).

Intensive care unit and ventilator capacity remained steady. As of Saturday, nearly 36 percent of ICU beds and nearly 84 percent of ventilators were available.

Anyone with concerns about COVID-19 is urged to call the health system’s Triage Resource Call Center, a phone resource line launched by CRH to handle calls from residents with questions and concerns about exposure or symptoms associated with COVID-19. The phone line is open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is staffed by registered nurses who will offer screening questions and potentially recommend a course of action for patients.
