COLUMBUS
Ronald “Ron” A. Balzer, 64, of Columbus, passed from this life unexpectedly at 6:12 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room.
Ron was born January 20, 1956, in Dunkirk, New York, the son of Godfrey “Bobby” R. and Marjorie Tyszko Balzer.
He married Janet A. Wojcinski September 20, 1975.
Originally from Dunkirk, New York, he started his career as a Supplier Quality Improvement Engineer with Cummins Engine Company at the Jamestown Engine plant, and then transferred bringing his family to Columbus Indiana in 1998. Ron retired after 30 years of service at Cummins in December 2019.
He also was a classic car and motorcycle enthusiast. He was a member of the NSRA (National Street Rod Association), Southern Indiana Harley Owners Group, as well as the Indiana Patriot Guard. If he wasn’t on his Harley, he was likely in the yard keeping things neat, or cleaning one of his vehicles. He was known to all as someone you could always count on to fix anything. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
Ron is survived by his wife Janet of nearly 45 years; sons Keith Balzer of Columbus, Indiana, and Kevin (Mandy) Balzer of Battle Ground, Indiana; his grandchildren Evan, Ava, Bryce and Alaina; twin brother, Donald and his sisters, Kathy, Cheryl and Cindie.
Ron loved spending time with his family and was proud of their accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home and Washington Street.
Family and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to time of service Friday.
We do ask that visitors follow the social distancing guidelines and recommend that mask are worn once inside the funeral home.
In keeping with Ron’s wishes, cremation is planned.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
