Driver accused in death of bicyclist enters plea bargain agreement

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A driver accused of hitting and killing a bicyclist before leaving the scene has entered into a plea bargain agreement in Bartholomew Circuit Court.

Eric Winship, 28, of 3885 Rosewood Court, has agreed to plead guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, a Level 3 felony and unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony, court documents state. In exchange, the state is dismissing other counts in the case including causing death when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (a Level 4 felony).

Winship is accused of driving a red GMC Jimmy that struck and killed bicyclist Kyla Ortlieb, 21, of Columbus. The fatal accident on Oct. 20, 2019, occurred near the intersection of 11th and Chestnut streets.
