The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 at Columbus Regional Hospital remained relatively stable over the past week.

As of Friday morning, there was one person hospitalized at CRH with COVID-19, though hospitalizations had ticked up to four earlier in the week, the hospital said.

The individual hospitalized on Friday morning is a Bartholomew County resident and was listed in stable condition.

By comparison, there were three people hospitalized with COVID-19 last Friday. The hospital initially reported no hospitalizations last Friday morning, but three patients were admitted later in the day, the hospital said.

Friday marked the 30th consecutive day of fewer than 10 COVID-19 hospitalizations at CRH. The last time COVID-19 hospitalizations were in the double digits was Aug. 26, when 12 people were hospitalized.

Statewide hospitalizations, however, have increased over the past week, with 856 confirmed or suspected COVID-19 hospitalizations as of Thursday, up from 762 on Sept. 18, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

By comparison, there were 595 hospitalizations on June 26 and 1,799 on April 13.

Though the number of local hospitalizations have generally decreased in recent weeks, local health officials are concerned about how the COVID-19 pandemic will evolve once flu season kicks into high gear.

Health officials are urging local residents to get their flu shot this year.
