Oliver “Ollie” William Cowan of St. Louis Crossing, passed away from Leukemia on September 21,2020 in Columbus Indiana with his sons by his side. He was born in Dixmont, Maine December 12, 1946. He was adopted by William and Bertha Cowan in 1956. Oliver joined the United States Army September 1964 where he served during Vietnam. Oliver received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Sharpshooter Badge and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged October 1967.
He married Sandy Hogan (Ficklin) in 1967, although divorced they have remained friends for many years. Ollie leaves behind children, William G. Cowan of Columbus, C. Brian Cowan of St. Louis Crossing and Cathy Eveleigh and husband Chris of Rogers, Texas. Also surviving are grandchildren Brian T. Cowan, Jordan Cowan, Cameron Eveleigh, Echo Eveleigh and Naomi Eveleigh. As well as 3 great-grandchildren. He had many special friends who were part of his life and whom he considered family.
He was preceded in death by an infant son Tyler Cowan, grandson Sawyer Eveleigh and great-granddaughter Sophia Cowan.
Ollie spent most of his life working as a mechanic, a skill he learned while serving in the Armed Forces. He enjoyed his peaceful country life in St. Louis Crossing with his canine companion Sassy. He liked to take day trips out of town traveling to different towns to “junk shop” and have a meal. On Sundays he faithfully attended St. Louis Crossing Baptist Church where he was a member. He was enormously proud of his garden and the large amount of produce he grew every summer. Ollie will be best remembered by his kind and generous spirit along with his infectious laugh.
Please join us in a Celebration of Life for Ollie on Saturday October 3 at St. Louis Crossing Baptist Church from 2-7 pm. A short service will be held and a meal to follow. All are welcomed to attend and celebrate a life well lived.
