In local high school sports, the Columbus North football team shut out Perry Meridian 14-0 and Columbus East did the same against Madison, winning 63-0, while the Columbus North tennis team captured its 12th consecutive IHSAA Boys Tennis Sectional crown.

Highway crews continued work on the foundation for the new I-65 bridge over Jonathan Moore Pike.

1970

Twenty-five Como Plastics workers and 172 employees of Arvin Industries plants in Columbus, Seymour, North Vernon, Franklin and Greenwood were laid off as a result of the General Motors Corp. strike.
