NORTH VERNON — Jennings County High School will be doing homecoming differently this year due to COVID-19.

In years past, JCHS students would decorate the gym with their class colors and themes. This week, classes will decorate hallways with the following themes:

–Tuesday: Seniors — black and white

–Wednesday: Juniors — black, baby blue, and pink

–Thursday: Sophomores — blue and orange

–Friday: Freshman — light blue and white

Many of the homecoming activities will be virtual. The seniors and freshman, as well as the juniors and sophomores, will be teaming up on “Google Chase.” JCHS students will have daily competitions on the popular app.

There will also be a pep session, but it too will be virtual. Some of the other activities planned are a class lip-sync battle and a recording of tug-of-war.

The school will be holding a punt, pass, and kick competition, and there will also be a toilet paper toss and a 40-yard dash.

The football team will have a speech recorded before their game Friday night against Jeffersonville. The cheerleaders, pep band, dance team performances and all other clips from homecoming week will be recorded and shown towards the end of the regular school day.

Homecoming week will wrap up with the football game, which will be broadcasted live on YouTube.

This will be a different year for the public as well, as there will not be a large homecoming parade downtown.

While this year’s homecoming will be much different than years past, students are looking forward to the festivities.

“This is my last homecoming, and I’m really looking forward to it,” senior Dakota Beesley added. “I’m glad that we will still have a homecoming and get to play a game despite this weird year of 2020.”
