Cummins Inc. has received a Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence, presented during the annual Pollution Prevention Conference and Trade Show Sept. 16 and 17.
The company received a Five-Year Continuous Improvement Award for its environment management system projects.
At its Columbus Engine Plant, Cummins implemented five environmentally beneficial projects including an LED lighting upgrade in 2017, manufacturing controls project from 2017-2019, test cell process improvement from 2016-2019, zero waste landfill initiative from 2017-2018 and community recycling days held each year since 2010.
The test cell process improvements resulted in a water reduction usage reduction of 3.4 million gallons a year. The lighting upgrade reduced electricity usage by 82,247 kilowatt hours per month. The company diverted 136,820 pounds of waste per year from the landfull and the recycling day diverted another 740,000 pounds of material from the landfill from 2015-2019.
