COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local man was arrested after he attempted to flee on foot from CPD officers after he was stopped for driving erratically early Sunday morning.
Police said shortly after 3 a.m., CPD officers stopped a silver colored truck after the driver, who was later identified as Justin P. Stuart, 34, of Columbus, was observed speeding and driving erratically on State Street.
While speaking with Stuart, the officers noted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and ran him through a series of field sobriety tests a short time later., said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
After providing a portable breath sample of .199%, Stuart attempted to flee on foot behind a nearby home where he was taken into custody after a short struggle, Harris said.
Stuart was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood draw and was eventually remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.
