A local man was arrested after he was accused of attempting to flee on foot from CPD officers after he was stopped for driving erratically early Sunday morning.
Police said shortly after 3 a.m., CPD officers stopped a silver colored truck after the driver, who was later identified as Justin P. Stuart, 34, of 31 Jones St., was observed speeding and driving erratically on State Street.
While speaking with Stuart, the officers noted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and ran him through a series of field sobriety tests a short time later., said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
After providing a portable breath sample of .199%, Stuart attempted to flee on foot behind a nearby home where he was taken into custody after a short struggle, Harris said.
Stuart was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood draw and then to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement, jail officials said. His bond was set at $7,500 and he was released under the jail’s program which allows qualifying defendants to be released without posting bail.
