Madison man arrested on multiple drug-related charges

JENNINGS COUNTY –Jennings County Sheriff deputies arrested a Madison man on multiple drug-related charges after investigating a report of a stolen vehicle vehicle traveling on State Road 3 in the Vernon area.

Deputies were sent to the area at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, looking for a maroon GMC Yukon, which had been reported stolen in Jefferson County.

Deputy Ian McPherson and Reserve Deputy Dylan Smock responded to the area.  Upon arrival in the area, deputies located a vehicle matching that description backed into a driveway of a residence in the 300 block of south State Road 3.  McPherson observed a male subject walking near a pole barn next to the vehicle.

McPherson made contact with the male subject, who was later identified as Darren K. Stewart, 26, Madison, deputies said. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the Yukon was the vehicle stolen in Jefferson County.  As the investigation continued, McPherson located more than 30 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales and packaging material.

Stewart was taken into custody without incident and later transported to the Jennings County Jail where he was being held on a $10,055.00 cash bond on the following charges:

  • Felony dealing methamphetamine
  • Felony possession of methamphetamine
  • Felony possession of a stolen vehicle
  • Felony illegal possession of a syringe
