COLUMBUS
Ernest W. Roberts, 88, of Columbus, entered into the loving arms of Jesus at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Roberts was born August 10, 1932, in Brown County, the son of Roy R. and Bessie Iona Harden Roberts.
He married Katherine Burton June 30, 1950, she preceded him in death August 24, 2011.
Mr. Roberts retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1984 after 37 years of service.
He was a member of First Christ Church and Diesel Workers Union.
Survivors include his children, Gerald (Robert) Roberts of Georgia, Dave (Bev) Roberts of Columbus, Karen (Terry) Merkel of Columbus, Debbie (Jerry) Fleetwood of Brown County and Lisa Roberts of Columbus; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Kenny Roberts of Brown County; sister, Dorval Chatham of Brown County and his dogs, Buddy and Darcy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, seven brothers and two sisters.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Tyler Tolbert and Rick Herman officiating.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2020 and noon to time of service at the funeral home.
We do ask that visitors follow the social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are required.
Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
