Trinity tops Twisters
SEYMOUR — Class A No. 1 Trinity Lutheran began its quest for a state title with a 25-9, 25-8, 25-9 win against Oldenburg Academy in the opening round of the Trinity Sectional.
Bailey Reynolds recorded 30 assists, three blocks and six aces, and Sydney Jaynes had eight kills and three blocks to lead the Cougars (26-5). Kennedy Hoffman pounded eight kills, and Kamzi Gross notched 16 digs.
Also for Trinity, Bailey Tabeling tallied six kills, and Ruthie Bingham added five kills. Stella Kleffman posted 11 digs, Elly Carter had six digs, Gross served five aces and Hoffman added three aces.
South Decatur wins
GREENSBURG — South Decatur overcame a first-set setback to claim a 21-25, 27-25, 25-23, 25-18 win against Switzerland County in the first round of the South Decatur Sectional.
The Cougars will play Milan in the semifinals at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
GCA ousts Lancers
EDINBURGH — Edinburgh fell to Greenwood Christian Academy 25-11, 25-8, 25-12 in the opening round of the Edinburgh Sectional.
Gracie Crawhorn led the Lancers (7-23) with three blocks and four digs. Carly Cowan pounded three kills, Alyssa Funkhouser recorded five assists and Bethany Burton and Kyah Streeval each served one ace.
Also for Edinburgh, Crawhorn and Burton each notched one kill. Streeval tallied three assists, Cowan had three digs and Jessica Walsh added two digs.
Panthers fall to Floyd
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County saw its season come to an end with a 25-16, 25-8, 25-22 loss to Floyd Central in the first round of the Jennings Sectional.
The Panthers finish the season 4-12.
