The Pence family is celebrating 200 years of settlement in Bartholomew County with the births of the ninth generation of Pences. Benjamin and Catherine (Steinbarger) Pence settled in German Township, Bartholomew County in 1820. They were both born in Virginia and settled in Champaign County, Ohio prior to their move to the area. Their fathers served together during the American Revolution, and the Pences have lived in German and Flatrock Townships in Bartholomew County and Jackson Township, Shelby County, which are all within 5 miles of the original settlement.
