Drug take-back event set for Saturday

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Indiana State Police posts around the state.

Citizens wishing to participate may drop off prescription drugs for disposal at any Indiana State Police Post throughout the entire state (except the Toll Road) on Saturday.

This is the one day every year where residents may drop off expired or unused prescription medications without wondering whether they will be accepted — even controlled substances. However the program will not accept new or used needles. The collection is intended for liquid and pill medications.

In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines — flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash — pose both potential safety and health hazards.
