Columbus police officers arrested two local men Tuesday night after receiving a report of a theft in progress in the 100 block of South Mapleton Street.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., CPD officers responded to a call in regards to two individuals who were attempting to steal a catalytic converter off of a van, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
When officers arrived in the area, one of the men, later identified as Dandy J. Knight, 52, of 781 McClure Road, Columbus, began fleeing on foot with a portable saw, Harris said.
Harris said the other suspect, Anthony K. Roberts, 27, of 1212 Peal Street Apt. A, Columbus, was stopped by officers and was taken into custody.
During the course of the investigation, the officers located the catalytic converter that was removed from the van, Harris said.
With the assistance of a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department K9, the officers located Knight at a nearby home where he was also taken into custody, Harris said.
Both men were remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail with a 48 hour hold on the following preliminary charges:
Knight: Theft, resisting law enforcement
Roberts: Theft
