Fall back, and change batteries

The Columbus Fire Department reminds residents to change smoke alarm batteries as you set your clocks back for the end of Daylight Savings Time Sunday morning.

Daylight Savings Time will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

The fire department is recommending that all residents inspect their smoke alarms this weekend to make sure they are in working order. Alarms that are older than 10 years old should be replaced. The smoke alarm’s manufacture date is typically found on the back of the alarm.

Families are also encouraged to take this opportunity to review their home fire escape plan. If you need help creating a fire escape plan, or with smoke alarms, contact the Columbus Fire Department Fire Prevention bureau at 812-376-2679 or visit columbus.in.gov/fire/.
