COLUMBUS
Robert “Rob” D. Sloan, 66, of Columbus, died unexpectedly at 7:30 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2020 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Rob was born August 16, 1954, in Flint, Michigan, the son Richard and Geraldine Rogers Sloan. On October 2, 1991, he married Karen Engleman.
Mr. Sloan’s expertise was well known in the printing industry. He helped grow many businesses and was a teacher and mentor to others for over 30 years. He most recently worked for Steven’s Packaging as Vice President of Manufacturing. He loved having fun and making people laugh. Rob loved his family and friends and enjoyed entertaining them at his home. Rob was generous. He took joy in helping others but loved salmon fishing even more. He was patriotic man, loved his country and was a WWII aficionado.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Karen; children, Kimberly Sloan of Springfield, VA, Jeremy (Stacy) Sloan of Carrollton, TX; grandchildren, George and Frances Sloan; sister, Mary Smith of Michigan; brother, Rick (Karen) Sloan of FL; mother, Geraldine “Gerry” (Charlie Hines) Vanderveen of Lakeland, FL; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; sisters, Jan Sloan and Mildred Hopkins.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver and Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Father Chris Wadelton officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place after the funeral service.
