COLUMBUS, Ind. — An intoxicated man was arrested after he was accused of spitting blood in the face of a Columbus police officer outside of 25th Street gas station early Sunday morning.
Officers were sent to the Circle K, 4005 25th St., at about 2:10 a.m. Sunday in regards to an intoxicated man causing problems inside the store, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Officers spoke to the man who was identified as Jesus Gabriel Cruz Santiago, 37, of Columbus. Santiago was uncooperative and spit blood in the face of one of the officers as he was being taken into custody, Harris said.
Santiago was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical treatment and later taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of battery by bodily fluid on a law enforcement officer (Level 6 felony) and public intoxication (Class B misdemeanor).
