Two arrested after multi-county pursuit in stolen car

Two people were arrested after a multi-county vehicle pursuit after CPD officers spotted a stolen car on Saturday afternoon.

Columbus police saw the vehicle in an alley near South Hinman Street at about 2:35 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, Joseph D. Vincent, 24, of 2348 Applegate Drive, began driving away at a high rate of speed when the CPD officer attempted to stop him and his passenger, Macy D. Bramble, 24, of 41 S. Hinman St., Harris said.

Vincent refused to pull over and a vehicle pursuit ensued as they continued east out of Columbus, Harris said.

Vincent continued driving east of State Road 7 at a high rate of speed and the pursuit eventually entered Decatur County where Bramble exited the vehicle and Vincent continued to flee from officers. Vincent lost control of the stolen car in Decatur County a short time later and crashed into a street sign at the intersection of County Road 800W and County Road 1200S, Harris said. Vincent exited the vehicle and laid on the ground where he was taken into custody.

The officers located marijuana on the ground where Vincent was and also located drug paraphernalia inside the stolen car, Harris said.

The officers observed Macy Bramble walking on a nearby county road and she was placed under arrest after officers determined that she was in possession of a stolen laptop computer, Harris said.

The two were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

  • Vincent: Auto theft, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana with a prior conviction. He was being held in jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
  •  Bramble: Possession of stolen property, bond set at $10,000, released from jail under county’s program allowing qualifying defendants to be released without posting bond.
