SEYMOUR, INDIANA

Robert H. Thomas, age 93, Seymour, passed away Nov. 16, 2020 at Lutheran Community Home in Seymour, Indiana. Robert was born Oct. 7, 1927 in Columbus, Indiana, to Louis and Ella (Hoeltke) Thomas. Being fond of music he was a choir member and a drummer participating in Walther League competitions. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1945. Robert served in the military 1946-1947, with the 35th Infantry Division at Otsu, Japan. He was actively involved in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for 75 years, having served on numerous boards – Elders, ushers, Evangelism and Building Committees for the new St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in 1998.

He was employed by Cummins Engine Co. for 32 years in material planning and in production control. Later he consulted for New Engine Releases.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, Elks #462 and the American Legion Post #89. Bob enjoyed sports, especially Colts Football, Pacers Basketball, and also reading and music.

He was married to Marilyn Edra Scheidt in 1951, deceased. He married Helen (Milton) Pollert in 2002, deceased. Robert’s step-children are Dan (Debbie) Pollert, of Michigan, Rebecca (Bradley) Boas, of Seymour, Fred (Karen) Pollert of Seymour, Lewis (Nancy) Pollert of Columbus, Bruce (Natalie) Pollert of Columbus, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

In 2010 he married Norma (Thomas) Christopher. His step-children are Diane (Tony) Brunovsky, Newton, NJ, and The Villages, Fl, Gary (Dottie) Christopher, deceased, Joe Christopher, deceased, and four grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Lorissa Ann Brunovsky, a great grandchild, deceased.

Survivors also include a sister, Pauline C. Rueter of Luverne, Minnesota, a nephew, Donald (RoseAnn) Rueter of Tustin, California, a niece, Mary (Tom) Buhrkuhl of Bourbon, Missouri, a niece, Martha (Gordon) Fick of Magnolia, Minnesota and a nephew, John (Kathy) Rueter of Rochester, Minnesota.

A virtual funeral service will be celebrated through Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour. Graveside and Military Honors will be conducted at Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus.
