State: 6,143 additional Hoosiers diagnosed with COVID-19

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Health today announced that 6,143 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at state and private laboratories. That brings to 268,222 the number of Indiana residents now known to have had the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s dashboard.

A total of 4,830 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 60 from the previous day. Another 254 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by the state and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 1,989,456 unique individuals have been tested in Indiana, up from 1,969,088 on Tuesday. A total of 3,668,049 tests, including repeat tests for unique individuals, have been reported to the state Department of Health since Feb. 26.

Bartholomew County reported 2,573 positive tests (up 85) with 62 deaths (no change) on Wednesday.

Surrounding counties reported:

  • Jackson County: 1,823 positive cases (up 44) with 31 deaths (no change).
  • Jennings County: 713 positive cases (up 28) with 13 deaths (no change).
  • Decatur County: 1,085 positive cases (up 15) with 42 deaths (up one).
  • Shelby County: 1,550 positive cases (up 29) with 49 deaths (no change).
  • Johnson County: 5,387 positive cases (up 142) with 160 deaths (no change).
  • Brown County: 292 positive cases (up three) with three deaths (no change).
