NORTH VERNON — Jennings County opened its girls basketball season Saturday with a 73-61 senior night win against Shelbyville.
The Panthers led 19-16 in the closing seconds of the first quarter when Addyson Kent hit a 3-pointer to spark a 12-0 run. They led by as many 16 late in the first half. The Golden Bears (1-3) rallied to within seven three times in the fourth quarter, but Jennings held on.
Lily Ernstes scored 16 points, and freshman Juliann Woodard added 14 points and 14 rebounds in her high school debut. Addyson Kent had 14 points, and Brooke Mowery added 12.
Kent, Mowery and Kenna Maschino were honored prior to the game as the three Panther seniors.
Cougars top Tigers
SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran jumped out to a 47-7 halftime lead and went on to post an 85-27 win against Crothersville.
