North falls to Franklin

FRANKLIN — Columbus North’s boys ran up against a state power Franklin team in its season opener and fell 129-77. The Bull Frog girls, who opened their season last week, lost to the Grizzly Cubs 158-64.

The North boys won five events. Christopher Lee took the 50-yard freestyle in 220.5 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 52.46. Daniel Utterback captured the 100 freestyle (49.06), Aidan McAlister won the 500 freestyle (5:08.38) and Utterback, Matthew Goble, McAlister and Lee took the 400 freestyle relay (3:24.63).

The girls were led by second-place finishes from Helen Alderfer in the diving competition (146.45) and Adeline Rush in the 100 backstroke (1:05.48). The Bull Frogs also finished second in the 400 freestyle relay (4:02.66).

Lancers open with win

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh trailed Southwestern (Shelby) 28-26 at halftime, but scored the first 14 points of third quarter and went on to open the season with a 57-46 Mid-Hoosier Conference win.

Caleb Dewey led the Lancers with 15 points. Isaac Roberts added 12.

Orleans tops Trinity

ORLEANS — Trinity Lutheran opened its season with a 61-51 loss at Orleans.

Hudson Norton led the Cougars with 20 points. Tyler Goecker added 14.

Cougars rout Pioneers

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran jumped out to a 48-7 lead and went on to beat Providence 63-15 on senior night.

Sydney Jaynes led the Cougars (3-1) with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Bailey Tabeling scored 17 points, and Kailene Cockerham added 11.
