COLUMBUS, Ind. — Two local men were arrested for felony attempted burglary after they were seen inside a Columbus storage facility with bolt cutters on Wednesday night.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., CPD officers were sent to Storage Express, 4072 N. Indianapolis Road, after a security officer spotted two men inside the facility carrying bolt cutters, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. The security guard advised police dispatch that he did not observe the men enter the facility through the front gate. CPD officers later located a hole that was cut in storage facility’s fence.
After officers arrived, they observed the two men running away from the storage facility. The officers set up a perimeter and located James M. Kapetanios, 31, of Columbus a short time later. The second suspect, Matthew B. Herron, 39, of Columbus, was also apprehended with the assistance of CPD K-9 Argo, Harris said.
When the officers arrested Herron, they also located a pair of bolt cutters.
Both Herron and Kapetanios were transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were being held on preliminary charges of attempted burglary (Level 5 felony) and trespass (Class B misdemeanor). Kapetanios has an additional preliminary charge of possession of a syringe (Level 6 felony), jail officials said.
