COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a Bartholomew County man on multiple charges after a domestic violence incident reported at 6:16 p.m. Sunday.
Deputy Dustin Newland responded to the Columbus Police Department in reference to a female wanting to report an alleged domestic battery that occurred in the northeastern part of Bartholomew County. The female, who had visible injuries, told Newland that the suspect, Virgle Massie, 48, Bartholomew County, had a loaded firearm and threatened to shoot law enforcement on their arrival, deputies said.
As deputies approached the residence, Massie appeared at a side door and told deputies that he would not show his hands. At that time, Newland deployed his Taser. Deputies detained Massie without further incident, deputies said. A loaded shotgun was located inside the residence.
Massie was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for clearance before being taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of criminal confinement, domestic battery, domestic battery with a prior conviction and resisting law enforcement.
Massie remains in jail in lieu of $35,000 bond, jail officials said.
