Anita S. Tiemeyer, a native of and former resident of Columbus, has combined her music experiences and study of history to produce a newly released novel, "A Brother for Sorrows. "This is the fourth book in a series of six, "The Guardian’s Son."

The saga begins near the end of World War II when an American army physician is sent into the Buchenwald concentration camp. He rescues and subsequently becomes the guardian of an orphaned Jewish boy, Joe Kaufmann, and brings him to his home in Ithaca, New York. Anita’s book focuses on the adjustment the protagonist, Joe Kaufmann, has to make in going from months of deprivation and starvation in Buchenwald to a life of safety, abundance, and opportunity in America.

“My intent in writing the novel was to show that more than one kind of devastation occurs during times of war,” Tiemeyer said. “Yes, there is a massive amount of physical damage to homes, businesses, and nature. However, emotional, psychological, and intellectual damage causes wounds that remain as wartime casualties."

Tiemeyer graduated from Columbus East High School in 1995. Her book is available via Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Information: anitatiemeyer.com.
